Multiple sources from Nayapaltan BNP’s party office informed that, supporters of elder leaders of BNP got very angry when reformist leaders were nominated instead of proven leaders. They started protesting for it. So far, BNP nominated few reforming minded leaders. Such as, Abu Hena from Rajshahi-4, Jahir Uddin Shapan from Barisal, Redhwan Ahmed from Cumilla-7 and Hafiz Uddin Ahmed from Vola-3 constituency; those who remain hidden when BNP was passing bad time, now they are getting nominations. On the other hand, those who suffered they are not getting the chance to compete on the election. This reason is driving root level activists crazy. They are dissatisfied because those who sacrificed they end up with nothing. They are thinking that, BNP will lose the election because these nominated leaders are opportunist. So, BNP has no hope in the election.
A BNP leader who applied for nomination from Barisal-1 constituency was reluctant to reveal his name. He said, “Jahir Uddin Shapan was a reformist leader in 2007. He was the former president of Bangladesh Chatro Moitri. He is an opportunist. He remained hidden when BNP was protesting on their past times. On the other hand, I suffer a lot. Supporters of Awami League sued against me number of times. 18 times to be accurate, just because I was involved with BNP for past 10 years. I served in jail for 3 years. I was hoping that, BNP will consider it and will give me the nomination. But reality is totally opposite. BNP did not nominate someone who was close to the activists. I think they will lose. I am requesting high command to reconsider this issue.”
